Our traditional Marathi Wedding Celebrations are taking place in Ritu's hometown of Nagpur, Maharashtra - also known as the 'Orange City of India'. The 3-day wedding will be held at the stunning Tuli Veer Bagh Resort & Spa in Pench Tiger Reserve near Nagpur - a beautiful resort and spa nestled in nature. It's the perfect setting for three magical days of celebrations, and we can't wait to welcome you there!
Loads of our guests will also take this opportunity to travel across India and experience the country. As you plan your travels, we recommend that you come to the wedding first, as it will be a great introduction to our colourful, vibrant and loud culture - after which you will be well equipped for your adventures ahead! We will be sharing dedicated travel itineraries/flight recommendations shortly!
Most visitors to India will need a visa to enter. We'd recommend applying for an e-Visa online at indianvisaonline.gov.in, which is straightforward and can be done well in advance. For British citizens, India offers e-visas that take upto 72 hours to process and costs $25. Please check the requirements for your specific nationality early, as processing times can vary. If you need any help or guidance, don't hesitate to reach out!
The closest airport is Nagpur (Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport), which has direct flights from several major cities in India and some international destinations.
If you're travelling from the UK, here are some options:
Qatar Airways - London to Nagpur, with a transit in Doha - This will be the most comfortable option. (We are aware that this flight is currently suspended due to the tensions in Middle East, we are hoping this option opens up asap!)
Fly London to Mumbai, with a small break in Mumbai for a night or 2, then a domestic flight to Nagpur - It's an easy journey and there are plenty of flight options! Plus you tick off Mumbai on your travel list✅ (Only caveat on this option would be the baggage allowances on the domestic flights will differ from International flights. You will have to ensure to check this on all domestic flights when flying within India.)
Stopover flights London to Nagpur - This option will often transit in Mumbai/Delhi, but could be more expensive compared to breaking your journey in Mumbai. We personally recommend that you avoid Air India due to its poor flying experience (we want you to travel happy!)
⏰Some of the more economical flying options to India will transit through the Middle East and given the current tensions and fuel crises - these are either very expensive or partly suspended. Hence, we recommend that you book flights to India 2-3 months in advance. We have seen that this is usually when we see the best prices.
🗓️The dates we've picked are keeping in mind international travel and usually a good comfortable season for tourists, without the influx of expat families - hence, we are confident the flights will be as economical as possible.
We recommend that you arrive in Nagpur by 9 AM at the latest on Wednesday, 9th December. The wedding will be hosted at Tuli Veer Bagh Resort & Spa, and the accommodation for the two nights is provided for all invited guests! The wedding guests will check-in on the 9th and check-out after brunch on the 11th December. We'll be in touch with more details on room allocations closer to the time. If you have any specific requirements, please don't hesitate to let us know!
Any accomodation outside of these days will have to be arranged by yourself.
For friends travelling from the UK and internationally - we will look to share hotel recommendations in Nagpur shortly - this will be a central hotel where most of the guests and Ritu and Seb, will also be staying the night before the celebrations. You will also have an opprotunity to extend your stay at Tuli Veer Bagh post the wedding - perhaps for a more leisurely tiger safari. 👂🏼Did someone say Wedding debrief!?
Plans around this are still forming and will be communicated shortly.
Since the venue is 2 hours away from Nagpur City, we'll be arranging shared transfers for guests travelling in, so you won't need to worry about getting to the venue! We'll share more details on pick-up logistics closer to the time.
The local currency in India is the Indian Rupee (INR). Monzo and Revolut work well! India is largely cashless - pretty much everybody accepts QR code-scanning based payments and card payments (but former is preferred!) Think of this as Apps specifically for India (such as GooglePay, Paytm, etc) focussed on Peer-to-peer payments. For anybody who will see this for the first time, it will feel very ahead of its time, yet hard to access for international travellers.
👀Highly recommend that you research this thoroughly, we too will update this section closer to time.
For emergencies, we recommend you have cash. Currency can be exchanged at the airport or in the city, and ATMs are widely available in Nagpur.
We would strongly recommend taking out comprehensive travel insurance before travelling to India. This should ideally cover medical expenses, trip cancellation, lost luggage and personal liability. Please make sure your policy covers the full duration of your trip and any activities you plan to do while you are there. It is always better to be safe than sorry!
